Kristen Grafton and Morgan Brownlee started out as co-workers, both teaching high school English. They developed a friendship, bonding over teaching the same books, strategizing new and inventive lesson plans, and their mutual love of Taylor Swift.
This friendship continued to grow, and out of it, an idea was born: a publishing house. They both had ambitions of publishing their own books, but they also wanted to showcase their love of other stories. They wanted to prioritize stories they wanted to read themselves as well as stories they hoped would interest their students. To cultivate a love of reading and good storytelling, they (somewhat jokingly) began to daydream about owning a publishing house. What started as a conversation in the halls of their school quickly turned into a (not at all jokingly) reality. At a local coffee shop, Cottage House Publishing was born.
As Cottage House Publishing continues to grow, its primary goals remain the same: to publish clean content, to preserve creative control for its authors, and to champion local voices.
